Extended Health Benefits (EHB)

Health insurance benefits

Another very common question we get from patients planning on booking an assessment at Regain Health Centre is whether or not we offer direct billing for Extended Health Benefits.

Extended Health Benefits (EHB), also sometimes called Extended Health Care (EHC) or major medical benefits, are additional benefits that supplement expenses and services that are not covered by government funding plans.

They are usually available through your employer, or sometimes you can opt to purchase them yourself through an Extended Health Benefit Plan provider.

Direct insurance billing

We are pleased to offer Direct Billing to most insurance companies.   Once you provide us with your extended benefits insurance information, we can submit your treatment costs for direct reimbursement, saving you time and reducing your out of pocket expenses. The amount you will need to pay depends on your individual insurance coverage.

We offer this service at no extra charge. Please be aware that we can’t guarantee direct billing at every appointment due to issues with individual benefits plan, problems with the online submission web-portal or clinic logistic considerations.

We can bill directly to the following insurance companies:

  • Canada Life
  • Chambers of Commerce group Insurance Plan
  • CINUP
  • Claim Secure
  • Cowan
  • Desjardins
  • Empire Life
  • Equitable Life of Canada

Frequently asked questions

We will collect your insurance information (i.e. policy and ID numbers) using our electronic new patient form prior to your first visit or at the time of your visit. We can then access the insurance payment system online through their website. It will give us the exact amount that your benefits plan will pay and any amounts remaining that you need to pay.

You will need to pay the remainder of the treatment fee, according to the website response. For example, if you are covered for 80% of a $100 visitation fee, you will pay $20. This depends on your individual insurance coverage and website response. It may also depend if your plan has any deductible payments required.

You can learn the details of your coverage by contacting your extended health carrier.

We can still bill your provider! If your visit is partially covered we will bill the covered amount to the provider and ask that you pay the balance of your visit at the end of each treatment.

Regain Health Centre does not require a doctor’s referral however some plans do require one. Please check with your extended health carrier to learn your plan requirements.

If you have an open insurance claim we cannot bill your visit to your extended health carrier if it is related to the open claim. You will need to pay for the treatment and seek reimbursement from your carrier.

If your visit is denied for online direct billing we ask that your balance is paid in full at the end of each treatment. Our front desk staff will advise you if your claim has been denied before you leave. Please note: Some plans have restrictions that do not allow for online direct billing. To check if you are eligible for this service please contact your extended health carrier.

You will get a receipt only for the remaining portion that you pay in the clinic. We can print the statement of direct billing submission to the website if you would like a copy.

You will pay for your appointment the regular way i.e. cash, e-transfer, debit or credit card. We will provide you with a receipt which will allow you to submit to your plan for reimbursement later on.

Yes, we have a large parking lot where you can park for free. And we also have ample street level parking, too.
